I know every family is different when it comes to safety. For me, safety is very important. One would think that I’d like to have a safety cabinet in the house. One of the most important things that you always think about when you have children is safety. We always want to have a safe environment for our child. And this certainly extends to the stuff that we buy for them. When I was pregnant with my first child I bought a baby carrier and it was a good decision for me to buy it. It is really comfortable and really good for walking if you love walking or going to exercise.

We’ve all heard about asbestos for years. As early as 1866 asbestos was incorporated in hundreds and by the early 20th century in thousands of different products. Insulation, fire retardant coatings, concrete, bricks, pipes, fireproof drywall, flooring, roofing, and lawn furniture to name just a few. During World War II 4.3 million shipyard workers were exposed to some asbestos. Fourteen of every thousand shipyard workers died an asbestos related death. That’s over half of a million people who died before their time.
In the 70’s court documents proved that the asbestos industry has known since the 30’s that asbestos was dangerous and had concealed this information from the public.
In 1990 the United States banned the use of new products containing asbestos. That meant that any existing products could still be sold and used.
Over time, as it became clear that exposure to asbestos was detrimental to a persons health, new laws and regulations were passed in many countries. Production of products containing asbestos was limited as well as protecting workers from exposure to asbestos. New companies were created that specialized in asbestos abatement (removal).
Given just these few facts about asbestos why would anyone, particularly parents, not want to have their house surveyed for asbestos?
