So you decided not to plunk down $600 on registration for SXSW? Who can blame you? While attending the biggest music festival in America would be amazing, heading to Texas for ten days and shelling out nearly $1000 on tickets and goodies may not be that easy for your schedule or your budget. However, since this is the 21st century, almost everything can be found online.
Watch In Your Living Room What You Missed In Texas
You may have missed a few surprise performances by the Flaming Lips, but nothing beats your perfectly broken-in chair and the custom beverages you can only find at home. South by Southwest’s (aka SXSW’s) well-crafted website is filled with information, pictures, news, updates, podcasts and even videos. After a little time checking out the recaps they’ve provided online, you won’t feel like you’ve missed anything, as all the important stuff is condensed into easy sound bites; no pushing through crowds required.
Find the Best of SXSW Online
SXSW’s website is crammed with stuff to see and hear, so spend a little time going over their recap video archives and podcasts. Their YouTube site is also a must-see as well. Here are a few things you might want to check out:
Powered by Muve Music, The Circus was a mega music event carried out in partnership with Brooklyn Bodega and The Couch Sessions during SXSW. Held at The Gypsy Lounge in Austin, this circus-esque spectacular showcased fashion, art and amazing music. The jaw dropping artist roll-call included Oddisee, Alice Russell, Electric Wire Hustle and BJ the Chicago Kid, with Miguel and Pharoahe Monche acting as headliners. It was an R&B, hip hop and electro-soul spectacular.
- Snoop Dogg at The Vibe
SXSW is a veritable who’s who of hip hop and rap, with Eminem, Jay Z, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg and more, all putting in appearances. While Snoop Dogg’s first performance in a Doritos vending machine was entertaining enough, it was his impromptu 4am performance at The Vibe that made his presence at SXSW really worth remembering.
- Welcome to the Music Business
As you can tell by the title, this is an unabashed peek into the world of the entertainment business, albeit a humorous one, where the good and bad are exposed and the true possibilities of achieving your goals are illuminated.
